Faith and surrender

“Be like Moses at the red sea, realise you are in over your head and surrender everything to God!” Baron Baptise Being someone that was born feet first, I have a tendency to dive in with both feet and think later!  That’s the way I came into the world and have carried on ever since! My inspiration for this blog is the TV series Paradise!  Paradise is based on a novel by Au Bonheur des Dames by Emile Zola.  For those who have not seen the programme, Paradise is about a good looking entrepreneur called John Moray in the 1900′s who has a shop called Paradise.  His...

The monkey mind

Aaahhh, the monkey mind….Just what are we to do with it.  Follow the breath….repeat a mantra, glare at a candle, sing…..scream….Not easy to bring that naughty mind under control.  It does not seem to want to remain on the object of concentration for more than a nanosecond!!! So if you had to share “how is my meditation?”  you may say “I can’t do it, I am actually a meditation moron!!!”  Well, here is the thing…you will find most people have the same version of this experience!!!  Welcome to the reality of the mind, not just your mind, the mind.  This is the...

YOGA AT THE ORPHANAGE

Whilst at the orphanage in Salem, India, Neva, Pastor Jay’s daughter (Pastor Jay runs the orphanage),  asked if I would teach yoga to the children, which of course, I accepted humbly.  These Indian children’s heritage is yoga, they actually own yoga and all the gifts it has given to us in the west, and here I am a westerner, teaching Indians yoga, I felt extremely respectful  of this.  There is a spirit in India under all that chaos that one can feel to the depth of your soul which, I suspect, is why I constantly get pulled back to India!! Yoga was wherever we felt like doing it,...

TYPICAL DAY AT THE PROMISED LAND

The accommodation at the orphanage, as you would imagine is sparse but ‘more or less’ functional, Katie (my dear friend who is spending 3 months there) and I are working on the ‘functional’ bit.  You are, however, well looked after with abundant food and tea!  Of course, after a while, rice becomes a bit tedious, and after you arrive home, you don’t want to see another piece of rice for quite some time!!!! Usually, in the mornings and most evenings there is a power cut, so its kind of everything by torch light at night, and a cold shower in the morning, luckily, its hot, so a cold shower is...

ANANDI INDIA BLOG CONT. PASTOR JAY’S VISION AND MARRIAGE IN INDIA

Well if I ever met a man with a vision, it’s Pastor Jay, as I said earlier, he started with nothing, but now he is building several colleges with the idea that the orphans education is funded by paying students.  Pastor Jay never stops, he is up early, and every day, drives for at least 45 mins to an hour to the promised land to check on the workers and the progress the builders are making.  In between that he is arranging marriages for his daughter Neva and his other son Bright, and in any other spare time he is sorting out rice production for the orphanage, water filtration and...

INDIA 2012 JOURNEY BLOG

So off I go again to India, after a hectic day in Rome at the Indian embassy trying to get my visa….the embassy certainly does get you into the Indian mood, well a bad mood anyway!!!! When I went with my visa forms, my pictures were a bit small, instead of helping me out and letting me know where I could get new photos in a rush, he just sent me packing with my tail between my legs to fend for myself!!!! Luckily I pulled it off, and after a hop, skip and a very large jump, I am on the train from Chennai to Salem again. The Indian trains are never a particularly ‘pleasant’ way to travel, you...
